ABOUT THE AGENCY

PNA HISTORY

The Philippine News Agency (PNA) is the Philippine government’s official web-based newswire service.

Born on March 1, 1973 with its newswire operations relying only on teletype machines and typewriters, PNA has evolved today as an internet-based news service agency that provides timely, factual and objective news and information to its subscribers, readers and a host of other clients here and abroad.

MISSION

Provides daily news services to both local and foreign readers on the policies, activities, and programs of the Government and the Presidency

VISION

As it aims to be at par with its foreign counterparts, it shall continue evolve to be a source of news that not only inform but inspire and aspire, by integrating journalism into the democratic process through civic journalism that encourages greater depth of knowledge of communities, and developing sources within layers of civic life.

OPERATIONS

A total 19 PNA reporters and correspondents are deployed practically in every major beat in Metro Manila.

PNA also has 16 provincial bureaus that submit articles to the Central Desk in Quezon City 24/7.

With the advent of digital media, PNA has brought its newsroom to the grassroots by opening its offices to the on-the-job trainings for college students, and have opened, bigger access to people who want to send in their stories be it news article, photograph, video or audio.

NEWSROOM CHANGES

With the assumption of President Rodrigo R. Duterte on June 2016, PNA was given much needed attention and support to overhaul and modernize its operations starting with fiber optic connection; launch of new website interface design; and renovation of its central office.

The unprecedented support addressed PNA’s lack of equipment with the provision of new laptops, desktops, cameras and cellular phones.

With a revitalized PNA, trainings and seminars are being provided to the news agency’s reporters, editors and photographers.

On April 24, 2017, PNA launched its redesigned website and mobile application. From a text-heavy format and static file, the newly revamped PNA website now has a more user-friendly and interactive interface. PNA’s mobile application offers users quick and easy access to the latest news using their mobile phones.

Since its new website launch, website page views soared from 11,000 to 4.9 million in September 2021.

PNA also launched its very own news webcast on October 16, 2017, the PNA Newsroom—a Monday-Friday webcast of daily news aired on Facebook pages of PCOO and attached agencies and PTV – while strengthening its presence in the social media landscape to effectively disseminate relevant and objective news to a wider audience.

PNA’s Facebook page reached 289,101 followers in September 2021. Its best month, however, was in March, with a total impressions running as high as 27.52 million; total reach of 17.56 million; and total post engagements of 3.8 million.
