The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VI or DOST VI, is one of the 17 regional offices of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the premiere science and technology body in the country charged with the twin mandate of providing central direction, leadership and coordination of all scientific and technological activities, and of formulating policies, programs and projects to support national development. DOST VI, on the other hand, implements laws/rules/regulations/policies/plans/programs/projects of the DOST, provides efficient S&T services in the region, and coordinates with other government agencies and with local government units in the region on S&T matters.
The DOST VI is currently at the forefront of spearheading the advancement of the S&T sector in Western Visayas and of making the S&T sector as a vehicle for regional socio-economic development.

2. To deliver S&T services according to the requirements of our customers and in compliance to existing applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; and
3. To enhance the competency of DOST VI personnel in delivering S&T related services.
Agency Profile
The DOST VI functions as the arm of the DOST Central Office in Western Visayas. It serves as the conduit of the various programs, projects and services of the DOST system for the various clients and stakeholders based in the region.
The DOST VI is headed by a Regional Director (RD). Under the Office of the Regional Director are two major divisions – the Finance and Administrative Services (FAS).and the Technical Operations (TO). Each division is headed by an Assistant Regional Director (ARD).
Programs, Projects and Services
The agency’s programs, projects and services are divided into three major categories:
• Technology Transfer and Commercialization
• S&T Human Resource Development
• S&T Promotion, Information Dissemination, Advocacy and Linkages
Technology transfer and commercialization aims to provide appropriate technologies to qualified clients. Currently, the various technology transfer activities of DOST VI are being implemented under the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP), a nationwide program designed to upgrade the productivity of SMEs through technology application/upgrading. Under SET-UP, various types of S&T services/interventions such as technology transfer, technology training, process and equipment design, product improvement, packaging and labeling development, productivity enhancement consultancy, cleaner production technology consultancy, laboratory and testing services, and others more are being made available to identified clusters or sectors.
The priority sectors under SETUP are the following:
Human resource development aims at building future S&T capabilities through focused programs in basic and higher education. DOST VI offers scholarships for S&T undergraduate degrees, and scholarships and research fellowships at the graduate level. It also conducts science and mathematics competitions to motivate members of the academe and promote a culture of achievement.
S&T promotion and information dissemination aims at creating S&T awareness and appreciation among the various sectors of society. S&T advocacy and linkages are likewise being implemented by the office in order to better achieve the mandate of the department.
